Deconstruction

About You

If you're here, chances are you grew up in the 70s, 80s, or 90s. You were possibly a bright and quirky kid whose childhood was shaped by Purity culture, the AIDS epidemic, church camp "cry nights," the WWJD movement, and a home life that was sunny on the outside and stormy on the inside. As a kid, you quickly learned to follow all the rules in order to earn safety, belonging, or approval.

As an adult, you struggle with shame, perfectionism, feelings of not enoughness, and a lost sense of self. You might also be tugging at the roots of your belief system, are somewhere on a deconstruction journey, or have weeded out religion altogether. The tangly thorny mess you carry inside has many names. It might be anger, grief, sorrow, confusion, overwhelm, stress, or trauma. Your relationship with G-d* or the Sacred is just as complicated. Parts of you don't trust or feel safe while another part of you might long for some kind of connection to Something.

How I Can Help

Deconstructing and healing from religious shame or trauma can be isolating. Often times, we lose our community and other social connections on this journey inward. The path forward is also not yet cleared and can feel daunting. It's helpful to have someone to "go with you" which is my role as a trauma-informed spiritual director. I come equipped to listen well, ask deep questions, and help you see the forest through the trees. The session is slow and grounding; utilizing art, poetry, somatic awareness, and IFS parts work to facilitate growth and healing. The goal of our sessions is to gently weed out shame, perfectionism, and fear-based beliefs so that you can move forward with freedom and authenticity along whichever path you chose.

All sessions are trauma informed, LGBTQIA+ and ND affirming.

FAQs

01

What's a Spiritual Director?

As a trauma-informed Spiritual Director, I am trained and certified to listen well and with compassion. As I hold your story, I may ask curious questions, offer keen observations, or encouragement. These are all intended to help facilitate growth and healing as you weed out religious shame, rediscover your authentic self, and find your way forward.

As a trauma informed director, I am also able to gently hold what feels hard or prickly and help you remain grounded in the present moment as needed.

03

What are your rates?

I offer many session packages to meet your needs:

4 sessions per month: $430

2 sessions per month: $230

1 session per month: $130

These rates enable me to keep my practice small, freeing me to work very closely and attentively with each of my clients while providing specialized, trauma-informed care.

02

Are you a therapist?

NO. I am NOT a licensed therapist and sessions are not intended as therapy. As a spiritual director, I am unable to assess, diagnose, or treat mental health disorders as listed in the DSM or ICD. I am also not equipped to help you navigate crises or situations that impact your immediate safety.

If your needs are clinically significant, meaning that you struggle to cope with daily life, then I encourage you to connect with a therapist or other mental healthcare provider in conjunction with or instead of spiritual direction.

I really love doing the Visio Divina practice; meditating on paintings at the beginning of the sessions. I find this to be a helpful way to start and it always somehow manages to relate to something going on in my life at that time.
